VIRUNGA NATIONAL PARK
If there is one park in all of Africa you should visit, it is Virunga.
This is the first official parks that still exist. It was created in 1925 by King Albert and unsurprisingly called Albert National Park which was renamed later to Virunga National Park.
From Rwanda, a great circuit would begin in Goma town with a hike to the top of mount Nyiragongo followed by a visit to the mountain gorillas near Djomba. Then travel south by a fast boat to Bukavu, visit the eastern low land gorillas in Kahuzi Biega National Park, and then leave through the Ruzizi border crossing to cyangugu. This would take roughly a week and you would see some of the best sites the DRC has to offer.
Likewise a visit from Uganda could begin in Bunagana with the visit to the mountain gorillas of Djomba. Then continue north to visit the Rwindi plains, the gorillas of Tshiabirimu, then continue east from Beni to see hippos at Ishango and climb the Ruwenzori’s at Mutwanga before departing to Kasindi. I'd recommend two weeks for this programme.

Rwindi Plains
Winding streams amongst the plains create ideal refuges for hippo populations, lions, leopard and elephant also thrive here.
It is possible to head to Vitshumbi to view bird and hippo populations in addition to plains animals when the region is deemed safe while hippo can sometimes be seen along the river; Lake Edward is their usual haunt.

Ishango
It is known as a prime spot for bird watching, as several species migrate here at various times of the year. This is also a great place to get some photographs of hippos and elephants. The country yard around Ishango is home to many of the same animals as can be seen in Rwindi, including elephants, antelopes and baboons. Some of the more Fishing tours are also popular here.

Ruwenzori Mountains
The Ruwenzori range is Africa’s most mysterious.
The highest peak is Marguerite that still very much for experienced alpinists. The main attractions things to see on this mountain are: lac Noir (black lake) at 3757m, lac vert (green lake) at 4157m and lac Gris (grey lake) at 4253m.
